Canelo vs. Golovkin: A Legendary Fight in The Making

Now that the Mayweather vs. McGregor trash talk tour is out of the way, let’s talk about the real fight, the real boxing match. For those who know this will be one of the best fights in years.

With about a year and a half of marinating and build up it finally happened. Oscar De La Hoya was confident and promised analysts and fans alike last year that this fight would be taking place in September of 2017, and the man’s word is his bond. Speaking with Chris Mannix on the Yahoo! Boxing Podcast, Oscar said that he didn’t want to wait too long but wanted to make sure that Canelo’s body had matured enough. The Golden Boy even referenced himself that he waited a bit longer before facing Pernell Whitaker back in 1997.

Gennady Golovkin (37-0-0) will face his toughest challenge yet as he faces Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (49-1-1) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Mexican Independence Day, September 16, 2017.

Both fighters have completed their international press tour and have opened training camps. Both fighters are training in Southern California, with the Kazak star training at the high altitude atmosphere of Big Bear, CA under Abel Sanchez at his gym The Summit, and the Mexican golden boy training in San Diego, CA under Chepo Reynoso.

The magnitude of this fight is epic and also adding to the resume of boxing in 2017. This may well be the fight of the year if not the best in years.

Just listen to the pitch… Saul “Canelo” Alvarez the Lineal Middleweight Champion vs. Gennady “GGG” the undefeated IBO/IBF/WBA/WBC  Middleweight Champion.

If that doesn’t get people excited then I don’t know what will, and what about the promos they’re filming with a 1930’s type of style? I know boxing fans are excited for this fight but the casual fan is the one who is the wild card. The style’s that these two have is exciting with both fighters throwing lots of punches while walking towards each other.

Once the event known as Mayweather vs. McGregor is done and over with on August 26th, I predict it will be a thing of the past and this amazing match up will be front and center with an avalanche of promotion leading up to it.

This bout has all the ingredients to become a legendary fight or maybe even trilogy, but we’ll have to until September 16th to find out.

Can’t wait!
